The only real pro of buying a mobility scooter is cost. Brand new mobility scooters can cost from a few hundred to a few thousand, depending on what the user specifically needs. However, if you buy second hand, the cost is usually a huge discount compared to new. The second-hand scooter may have some wear and tear, but it could potentially save you a couple hundred quid that you could use elsewhere.
Reliability
With a new mobility scooter, you know that the shop will have tested and checked that all of their scooters are reliable. If you have any problems, the shop will no doubt help you out and get the problem sorted. However, if you buy second hand, the person your purchased it off may kick up a fuss. So, make sure you know the person you purchase from, or buy second hand from a shop.
Warranty
Unless you buy second hand from a shop, it is unlikely that you will receive any form of warranty. Unless the scooter is covered under the manufacturer’s warranty, any faults will cost you money. Therefore, you could save from buying second hand, although unless it is from a reputable source, any problems could cost you more than a new scooter.
Overall, the main pro is the cost. You will save yourself a lot through buying second hand. However, there are risks involved. It all comes down to who or where you are buying it from and how reliable that person or shop is.
